Why did you start Streaming?

Started on the 25th of August, 2014 and ten years later, still goin’ strong!

Being a gaming enthusiast basically since the late 80s, gaming has been an integral part of my life and it seems like that's not going to change anytime soon.

In some kind of weird coincidence, I've been playing video games since the age of 5 and now that’s all just another part of my career outside of streaming. I'm lucky to have the experience of being part of the entire 90s where gaming was a subculture all the way til today where gaming is now mainstream. With so much history remembered and consistent compliments on my storytelling skills I was often requested to live stream instead of just making YouTube videos.

So in short, I just wanted to share my history and passion with gaming with everyone around the world and streaming just seemed to be a better way to showcase that.

What made you stream on Kick?

Easy question! Kick is the best site for streamers. I used to be part of another streaming website but after so much work and commitment to them, felt like there was a glass ceiling and learned the hard way that we’re all just numbers and names over there, regardless of what you do.

However, when I came to Kick I was welcomed, encouraged and supported by the staff and the communities. I’ve made so many new friends here and met so many great content creators and streamers around the world just by sharing and doing what I love. Right now, these are the happiest and greatest moments of my streaming journey.

I wish I switched over earlier!

What kind of Content do you Create?

I will cover nearly everything and anything, so it’s easier to say what I won’t usually do, and best way to explain that would be that I won’t prioritise major brands or triple A titles that everyone else is currently playing.

Thanks to a small moment in my gaming history, there was a period of time where I had to explore other games, so I often credit that moment to why I ended up falling in love with so many genres and it probably also explains why I like to show off games that people don’t know too much about and sometimes “sell” these games to others to try it for themselves and their friends.

Most of my content on stream will mainly be focused on Indie Games and Retro Games, but being from Melbourne, Australia. I’m a huge fan of sports and naturally I'm a drawn to Esports. So, I do a lot of League of Legends and love showing serious competition streams when I do clash modes. Apart from that I’m not afraid to reveal the true journey of the ups and downs of the ranked world. So don’t come expecting to see pro plays, you might see a few but really, you'll see the everything from the game play to the behind the scenes of trying to be a better player than I was yesterday.

What are your top tips for live streaming?

I can't put these in order but off the top of my head, I'd offer the following and sorry if I go a bit deep here...

1. Your follower count doesn't measure your worth. Think about it.

2. Whatever goals you have, regardless of hashtags, trends and algorithms, it will always take time, and the time is RNG anyway. So learn to be patient with what you're trying to do and along the way your goals might change. Embrace it.

3. Love what you do and live to give. If you're not happy with what you're doing, you’re wasting time. People love passion and it attracts people, so if you're a big fan of a particular game or genre, showcase EVERYTHING about it and be a streamer who "ADDS" something to it.

4. Keep it real. Be authentic. Don't try and be the best. Just TRY your best. Share your ups with a smile and share your downs with a tear too. People want to see a REAL person streaming, not a gimmick or a big ego showpony who pretends to be perfect.

5. If you have even one person chatting or watching, you're winning. You don't know how much of a positive change you're bringing to someone. Some people just want something on in the background while they work or whatever whereas others just want to chat for bit because they enjoy the game or want to chat with others. In that case, try your best to connect with them or have others connect in the chat. Connection is far more valuable than the numbers of people watching anyway.

6. Don't multi-stream. You might get a quick dopamine hit of having lots of viewers and thinking you're popular for a moment but think of it as a kitchen with a lot of smoke but nothin' is cooking.

Doing this means you're trying to look bigger than what you are, and to do this properly, you'd have to ignore one chat room to acknowledge the other chatroom! Now people viewing are literally just watching you juggle chatrooms and waiting for their turn. So just give all your attention to one platform and let’s be honest, the only platform is Kick anyway.

7. Don't compare your stream/channel to others and don't watch other streamers in envy. Instead celebrate others success and help others out with hosts and visits.

You have your own story like they have their own story. Some people are unfortunate to become lucky and get big quickly and drop it all just as quick. Over the ten years I've been doing this, I can't count how many times I've seen people become partnered, get donated 1000s of dollars or get featured as the "next big name", only to suddenly fade out and become forgotten. The exciting thing is your moment will come but will you be ready to keep it? Just carry on and keep having fun with it.

8. Be kind, be humble and never forget how things were like when you started. Streaming can lead you to getting a big ego and when you start acting like your ego, you'll attract the wrong kind of people or you might simply sabotage yourself, People might not want to support someone who’s changed, they'll others will find the smallest of things to try and chop you down, and then its not fun anymore.

9. Protect your community. Make sure your room is accepting of everyone around the world and fight for that! Stamp out people who might disrupt this and get trustworthy mods who will help you maintain this. Try and use “timeouts” first to explain rules but if don’t get it, or are simply trolling, then you go for the bans. Make sure your community is a place of happiness and people feel united!

10. Quality over quantity. Some streamers get stuck thinking they need to stream more and then do unrealistic hours or get fatigued. So instead of streaming all the time, focus on making your streams good quality. It’s better to stream less often and make those streams fun, engaging, and full of great content. This way, you’re not burning yourself out, and your viewers get excited for every stream because they know it’ll be worth it. A good sign you're doing this is if there are people in your chatroom or viewing BEFORE you’ve even gone live! Think of it like this: it’s not about how often you’re live; it’s about making each stream awesome and memorable. Just make sure you can balance it outside of the streams too. You have a life too!

Most importantly, never, ever give up, and always love what you do. I know I said that earlier, but I just need to say it again because I've been doing this for over 10 years. Never been given a tick, never been given a partnership, etc. But I consider myself one of the most successful streamers of all time that no one knows about, and I think that’s cool. I love what I do. Gaming is my life. Off stream I use gaming to help assist various communities of people connect and play together and on the stream, I'm doing the same thing in a different way.

I'm happy, and that’s the biggest win of all and you can have it too.
